Osprey - Hydraulics Bite Valve

Category: Backpack

So, like many folks on here, my bite valve started going south and developed the "drip of death". It wasn't until I started reading the reviews that I realized, the reason why this occurred is that I had been biting down on the silicone part when it was frozen, snowboarding and snowshoeing.

Just opened the package and filled with water, took one sip and the bite valve won't stop leaking brand new, one use. Love the bladder design, but this valve is horrible so far. I was told this brand is superior to camelback which I've always used, but my camelback never did this even after years of abuse dragging through caves and hiking. After reading other reviews it looks as though this is a common problem, going to swap it for a camelback valve.

As others have said, these wear out unacceptably fast. I had my stock one split to uselessness and leak water after a handful of months. Hydrapack was helpful in replacing it, but the second is now well on its way to doing the same. Definitely spend your money on a different design and let's hope Osprey gets with the program on this one.

I wore out the Osprey bits valve that came with my pack. The bite valve tore and would leak unless the valve was closed. I bought this bite valve to replace the original. But this one doesn't include the magnet to conveniently locate the bite valve for easy access on my chest strap. I removed the magnet from my old valve and epoxied it to the new valve. Now it works great.

Love my Osprey Stratos 24 day pack, and the Osprey 2.5L Hydraulic Reservoir, which I bought separately. I was half-way through a 17.5 mile Rim-to-River-and-Back Grand Canyon hike when the bite valve sprung a 1/4"-long leak. It was 100 degrees as I hiked out, so the water dribbling down my shirt and shorts did not throw me off too much. But really, Osprey? Just. Fix. It.

They start leaking at the worst possible time & there's no way to predict when it's going to happen. Either purchase a new one before an important hike or take your chances & hope it doesn't let you down. One leaked on the foot well of my vehicle, dumping a liter of water, soaking my floor and socks. Another 5mo old Osprey valve started leaking while on a two day desert hike and was dripping for a long time at the beginning of my hike. Since it leaked without dripping on me, I didn't realize that I lost a critical amount of water and had to cut the trip short. Also, don't count on your local REI to have these in stock. The last two times I needed one, they were out and I had to wait for one to be shipped. The failure rate must be astronomical and I'm guessing that Osprey is making a killing on replacement valves. Once these two Osprey hydration bladder/packs wear out however, I just won't be purchasing their products anymore.

I wanted to add a shut-off valve to my older Camelbak reservoir, but I could only find valves for the newer reservoirs from that company. I bought this Osprey bite valve / shutoff valve and it worked just fine on my Camelbak hose and reservoir. It was a great solution for my need. The entire clear plastic part twists to open and close the shutoff valve.

I love the easy to turn valve, especially when biking. However, after using this twice, (yes, twice!) the rubber has cracked in two spots and water leaks out even when it is in the off position. A friend of mine has the same bite valve and has also experienced the same cracking and leaking. I don't recommend this product.

I recently slammed my truck tailgate on the valve of my new Osprey water bladder. I was glad to be able to just buy the replacement valve instead of having to replace the entire bladder which I’d only used twice. The Osprey bladder is well designed and should provide years of use (if I can keep it out of my truck door).

I bought two of these bite valves and a piece of the Osprey tubing in order to extend the nozzle on my Salimon soft flask/Salomon running vest. I was a little concerned that it wouldn’t fit, but it all fit together perfectly. And the 3” extensions made the flasks much easier to use.

I love my osprey pack, but within a few uses this valve split open and leaked on my shoulder and back for all 6 hours of my hike. There is no shut off valve, so I couldn't even turn the water off for the day. I had to hold the tube above my pack. It shouldn't break that quickly.

I like the bite valve more than Camelback. But the little red stopper broke at its stem and now the water comes out faster than it should. Also, the entire unit comes off the tube at times. Seems like there needs to be a better/stronger design.

This was returned, as it does not replace a Camelback bite valve. Staff at local REI thought it was appropriate. REI local store previously had Camelback products, but no longer do.

I thought this was a replacement for the magnetic bite valve however it has no way of affixing itself, as the magnetic bite valves do. Still fits my intentions and works well.

Worked fine on a hike to the Grand Canyon, It was a little loose in my hydration pack tube, but the tube was older. Good old duck tape held them together fine.

Work great for a while but starts to leak and later tears which makes the leak worst. Closing the valve while riding is not practical.

Within one day the mouth piece broke. Otherwise the bladder itself was very well made easy to fill and great fit for my osprey pack.

I used this on my month long trip full of hiking and moving from town to town and it never spilt! easy to use, easy to clean

I like how this magnet is formatted more than any other. Also, the fact that this part is easily replaceable is a lifesaver!

Osprey pacs are the best but the bite valve didnt last a year. I have a camelback for 10 years still works like new.

My rat chewed on my other mouth piece so I just bought the same one and replaced it and it works perfectly

Quick replacement, compatible with osprey water pouches. (Product is as described on box). Great quality.

replaced the basic platypus' non locking mouth piece with this beauty. worth it

The bite valve cracked and started leaking after a few months of use.

Excellent mouth feel, taste and function.........the best

Bought as a replacement for a broken model with a tap

swiched out my old one out and found out it leaks.

Will this bite valve work with the hydrapak system?

Yes. The Hydraulics Bite Valve is a Hydrapak bite valve, so it will work.

Are you able to use the Osprey Bite Valve with a Camelbak product?

The Hydraulics Bite Valve is not compatible with a CamelBak reservoir. Only the CamelBak valves will work.
