Jetboil - MightyMo Backpacking Stove

Category: Camp Kitchen

I've used this stove for 2+ years now. Jetboil replaced my first one due to faulty igniter. Same thing quickly happened on the replacement. This is a good stove but bring a lighter. I wish they'd just eliminate the igniter as clearly only lasts for but a brief moment- make the stove lighter and have the buyer brig a lighter. :)

Normally jetboil is on their game with all of their products. We got this on a trip last summer to the North Cascades for a multi day climbing trip and it worked fine in the hotel the night before soon as we need to cook dinner we spent over an hour trying to fix it and we got nothing more than a sputter of a flame. We were lucky enough to have other climbers nearby to save our bacon for the remaining 2 days worth of cooking. Very disappointed in Jetboil.

So far this has been a great little stove that boils water incredibly fast but can be micro adjusted for God coffee and general cooking. My one piece of advice is; the stove comes in a soft bag with the ignitor as the highest point, if the bag snags the wire end of the ignitor and pulls it out of the mms of distance from the burner as described in the manual you will see a spark but the burner will not light. The problem is easily corrected by pushing the wire back down a few mms. I decided on this stove because I feel like the build quality has been going down in the MSR's materials and the snowpeak and MSR stove were loose and felt alot more fragile. Ask your local store which they see returned the most in your area.

Despite a few negative reviews about the piezo issues I bought the stove and it worked a treat until on the second day the piezo failed alltogether. Got the whole unit replaced and it failed again, not totally but it needed 10 presses at times. That said, the pot support and the whole unit is really sturdy and heat output was great - not sure how much of a difference there really is between all the good brands by the time temps and wind varies. I ended up getting the Soto Amicus - liked the 4 pot stands, internal piezo and more wind resistance. Yet to be tested on a hike but cranks out heat beautifully.

I like this stove a lot and it heats/boils/simmers water really well but as other comments have said the igniter is poorly designed or constructed.

The first few times I used this stove, I loved it. It was compact, lightweight, and super easy to haul out on a backpacking trip. However, the last time I attempted to use it, the stove would not light. The igniter seemed to be totally shot without warning, which is pretty problematic when you're out in the wilderness. Thankfully, we were able to use a flint to create a spark and light this so that we could eat dinner after a 12 mile hike in. In the morning, it wouldn't light at all. Very disappointed in this product, which I initially loved.

I recently bought the MightyMo and used it on a weekend backcountry camping trip. It worked great the first time out of the box but when I attempted to use the spark igniter for the next meal, it no longer functioned properly. Similar things were said on some previous reviews of this product. The spark igniter seems to short out well below where it is intended to ignite the fuel. Thankfully I had matches to at least get an ignition going...

This was given to me for my birthday. On the first 2 day trip it worked fine. On the second the lighter stopped working. The spark would light below the burner and not light. However I am giving this two stars because of REI's customer service and then taking it back and I instead purchased an MSR pocket rocket instead. Also, something that has a lot of moving parts like the mightymo should have a hard case to protect it from being hit/bent instead of just a bag. Sometimes the simpler the better.

Regulator appears faulty. No gas flow, but hit it and started to get some gas flow. Disappointed b/c you can’t even take the regulator apart to fix it. Barely used.

I wanted a small packable stove, but with an igniter. This stove works very well, has plenty of power, folds up nicely, and HAS AN IGNITER! Igniter works great.

I love this stove....the control is great, water boils quickly and its very stable even with a good sized pot on top. My one gripe with it is that the ignition only worked for two days, after that I'm using a lighter for it. The igniter failing isn't enough to make me want to take the stove back, but come on Jetboil....failure after two days??!!??

A little disappointed in this product. It doesn't light easily. Have to fidget with it a few times to get it to light. I would not purchase this again.

was only able to ignite this stove once, glad it wasn't on a backpacking trip, wouldn't buy again, will be researching more reliable brands/models.

Worked great for 4 hiking trips but then it stopped. The adjustment for the flame would not work and I could not get enough heat to boil anything.

Total piezo fail on first outing! Lucky I had matches....

I came from an older pocket rocket model without ignitor and simmer control. I really like having these with a minimal amount of weight. The feet for the pot/pan are much more stable than my previous model. i have used this for backpacking and car camping about 20 times so far and have had no issues. I do wish this came with a hard case rather than the fabric pouch but this does make it small enough to hide in my backpacking pot so not a big deal.

I gave this stove four stars due to its light weight, and low price. The stove allows me to cook, and eat warm meals on the trail. The only downsize to this stove is occasionally the automatic lighter doesn't work. You will need to bring some extra matches or a lighter as an extra precaution.

Used this little stove for the first time in the backcountry a week ago and found it to be a good stove for boiling water. With three supports, it is decent for a small pot/cup, but I am not sure if it would feel stable enough for much more. Flame is nice and even with good control.

Had the same problem with the ignition system. Ignition failed on the second day of a 5 day hike. Burner still functional however you need an alternative method to ignite. Had a small ferro rod that did the trick. Am going to return shortly.

This stove is perfect for backpacking and car camping. It doesn't take up much space and doesn't require you to remember a lighter. It puts out plenty of heat for cooking pretty much anything and supports heavy pots and pans easily.

Tiny and powerful, everything you'd expect from a jet boil stove. Perfect for my solo adventures and for a weekend out with the 'ol lady. Just make sure your cookware isn't ginormous. the design is sturdy, it is just a small stove.

Looks like my issue is the same as everyone else’s, the electric starter shorts to the body of the stove. I’m returning because I can’t see carrying it if doesn’t work. MSR?

Boils just about as quick as a Jetboil Flash, and has a push button igniter.

Can adjust flame height easily, easy to set up and use, comes with a stabilizer, heats water up very quickly. It's an essential for all our camping trips.

Bought this thinking maybe it wouldn’t be stable enough but it has great stability. Took it out for hiking and I like to make hot coco with it. Love it

This is a great new addition, light and sturdy. It gives a large range for flame power. The use of a low, slow burn is wonderful. Just get one!

In 2nd backpacking day, ignitor does not work. if I don't have a friend in a middle of mountains....

Works great, screws on securely, and the flame is strong enough to withstand mild wind

The one I brought didn't sparkle at the right spot. It's hard to start a fire.

Made coffee and oatmeal and it worked perfectly. Had no wind to contend with

Fine stove. Boiled water. Lit when required. It could use a windscreen.

Great product bad info about it get the jet boil 1.5L pot with it

I bought this so I will be more light weight on bike tours

Easy cooking you can’t go wrong with this little beast

I have to ask, I have ultimately the same thing which i got from walmart for 15$ or so. So just asking is it worth it to buy this? I understand it has simmer control and im sure it's lighter, but is it worth it for the simmer control and few ounce diff?

Unfortunately, without knowing what stove you are comparing this to we cannot make an accurate comparison. However, this stove does have simmer control, a regulator, and several other features that make this stove an excellent value.

Will the Jetboil MightyMo Backpacking Stove accept different size fuel canisters? Such as the 4 oz. 8 oz. and 12 oz.?

Jetboil stoves accept canisters that use Lindal valves of 4, 8, and 12 ounce varieties.

Does an older Jet Boil cup fit on the Mini Mo burner? I

The MightyMo Backpacking Stove is compatible with the FluxRing Fry Pan and FluxRing Pot from Jetboil, in addition to any flat bottom backpacking cookware. The stove is not compatible with any cups from Jetboil stove systems.
