Stanley - Adventure Cooler - 16 qt.

Category: Camp Kitchen

I just purchased the 16 quart cooler and I still have ice in the cooler after 3 days. I have been using different coolers and the Stanley is the best. If you follow the tips they give you this cooler will hold ice for days and even over a week (longer in colder temp). I just returned from a 4 day canoe trip in direct sunlight and 85 degree average daytime temp. There is still ice in my cooler, and all my food leftover is still cold.

Doesn't anyone else drink beer here? You cant close the top of this cooler with a bottle of beer (or Nalgene) standing up! I don't understand how this could have been missed. Everything stays cold and it is a tough cooler but I can't overlook this issue.

I own all 3 sizes of the Stanley Adventure Coolers- a 7, a 16, and a 30 quart, and have used them all extensively. And while the 30 quart cooler has held ice for 4+ days, and has thick insulation like more expensive roto-molded coolers, the 16 quart is just a cheap box store cooler dressed up like its 30 quart big brother. The 16's insulation is no thicker than a $20 cooler, and it shows- it will not hold ice more than a day. If you want to use the 16 as a big-boy lunch box or for a day trip, it will be fine. But if you plan on overnight trips, go with the 30, or another cooler with thicker insulation.

I have used this Stanley cooler for 1 year now and it works as advertised. It will retain ice for at least 3 days and build quality has held up fine. However, the handle and snap latches appear to be cheaply made so I have been very careful not to abuse these parts. Overall, I am happy with the cooler but I expect a bit more performance and quality at this price point.

This cooler will keep ice for an entire day (plus) when I'm out on the lake in 80 degree sunny weather. Looking forward to getting good use out of this cooler. I wish Stanley made a larger capacity option.

Fine cooler, nice size and features but it does not have a drain spout like the larger ones. I spoke about this extensively with retailers and manufacturers and the conclusion is that it is a design flaw and it is a industry wide practice to not put drain spouts on the smaller coolers. Only problem is that it does not really make much sense to not have one because of so many potential conveniences that go along with that simple feature. Please put one in and when you do, please put in the screw type, not the old tab type that is much more likely to come loose and leak.

I have used this cooler on a daily bases since I bought it. It works as it should. The seal on the lid is tight, the handle is solid, good construction and compact design. I needed a cooler that was good and didn't break the bank-this is a great product. My only complaint is why can't this be made in America?

I bought this cooler as a super lunch box. It is built well with riveted hinges and positive locking latches. The top serves as a neat stowage area and as they say, a seat. The inside volume is much greater than I anticipated. I usually pack several Nalgene bottles and a full lunch with room to spare. It kept ice for 2 days in deep southern heat (90+). Using freezer packs I can keep things relatively cool for three days- not bad. I would definitely buy this again.

Purchased for an extended trip and it was a poor choice. Very very difficult to open, the gasket falls off and food stayed cold for less than 12 hours I had to assign it one star for poor but I wanted to give it zero stars

It does a good job in keeping items cold but I have found that the blue plastic piece that holds the bungee also keeps water. After accidentally spilling water in the top well, I am still getting a small and somewhat annoying stream of water that is trapped between the grey lid and the blue plastic after 3 days. Like another review stated, don't expect to fit bottles upright but cans are not a problem.

Stanley continues to make great products! This cooler is amazing and keeps food/drinks cold for more then a day on the boat. We also filled it with frozen freezies (for the rugrats, right?) and they were still frozen over 24 hours later

I've been using this cooler for about 4 years, and around year 1, the inner part began separating from the outer part, which caused one of the latches not to work. I've been using it with just the one latch for the last three years, but unfortunately the inner part continues to separate and now the 2nd latch is becoming difficult to close.

Thought I'd give one of the "super coolers" a try. It does in fact give you an extra day over standard coolers. Of course all this is dependent on how you use it but it does last longer. It is not big but I'm a fan of two smaller coolers verses one big one. Durable and simple though I think the latches could be better. I like it. How it stacks up to the Yetis I don't know but they are too expensive.

I received the Stanley Adventure Cooler today and was really disappointed. I opened the box, pulled out the cooler and, sure enough, the handle was broken, as mentioned in other reviews. Otherwise the cooler looked ok, but I will never know. My experience coupled with the other bad reviews is enough for me. Back it went to REI. The whimpy handle cannot support 10 pounds of ice and a few cans of refreshment. This cooler is a sissy cooler. Save your money and get a real cooler like a Yeti.

would get 5 stars if totally leakproof, but it does leak if slightly off horizontal, not much or fast, but not reliable if ice melt reaches lid while it is on its side

I love this cooler. I use it on a day to day bases working as a driver for UPS. It holds enough drinks to last me for 2 days and is rugged enough to roll around in the back of the truck and to use as a seat. The one flaw is the fact that tall ones won't stand up in it but that's not a big deal to me. Just lays then down. Great product

I went into the store thinking I would buy a small Yeti, but wasn't happy about the price tag on those coolers. Then I saw the Stanley. It is perfect. The right size, small enough to carry, holds plenty, keeps it cold, and even has a place for my old Stanley thermos on top. I highly recommend it.

Good value cool. One main drawback is that the water/rain can get into the lid (not IN the cooler) I learned this by leaving it outside during rain and snow. It was very difficult to fully get the water out of the lid.

Solid cooler. Ice cold easily for 24 hours, water remains cold for 48 hours. Have used it a couple of times to sit on and me being 204lbs.,it was solid.

Bought to use for a adult picnic, broke after 1 day of very mild use. Cooler keeps ice cold longer as promised but fails in every other aspect.

I bought this cooler last month and was immediately surprised to find that I could not open the latches. Once opened, I couldn't get them closed. Absolutely useless! I will never buy a Stanley product again!!!

I have had this cooler 3 months now and has been outside/ used 15 times. I thought it was a perfect little cooler for a road trip or taking beer to a friends house or riding in the back of the Polaris. Except it has many flaws besides the price point.

This cooler is extremely rugged and works perfectly well in my daysailer. As the name implies you go out for a day in a daysailer, and then you come back in. It keeps everything cool for a day despite constant opening and closing. It's rugged enough to stand up with constant ship-to-shore and shore-to-ship movement around docks and launch ramps-- I don't want to pay for a product engineered for more than that type of use.

Great size, nice handle & nice carry top with bungee but hard to close & open clips & suction. The interior is very brittle. I had a couple plastic water bottles in cooler and it broke the interior plastic. REI great return/exchange policy came in handy as they exchanged it no problem. It is also suppose to have a life warranty through Stanley. I would recommend even with the flaws.

The lid no longer closes on this cooler after 2 years. It appears that the inner insulation has swollen lifting the inner liner so that the exterior catch can no longer reach the closing bars. It still looks fine but close examination of the line between the gray and the green shows the widening of the seam.

Excellent everyday use. Work lunch box, hunting cooler. I put a layer of ice in the bottom and load it up and it keeps everything cold for a solid 40+ hours, ice cubes still visible. If I needing to keep things cold longer I simply add ice to the top layer after loading. Indestructible designe. Solid.

The cooler itself keeps everything cold and the seal is solid, but the handle broke after only the second use under no real stress. I'll also echo other reviews mentioning that the handle doesn't stay in place when carrying if there's anything heavy strapped to the top.

I've only used for this a canoe camping trip so far, but was very happy with the performance. With its solid clasps and insulation, it kept our food cold for longer than I expected. The bungee cords on top also proved to be useful.

Like most people on here, I use this cooler for mostly beer. It keeps ice for at least two days, and everything stays cold as can be. However, it is simply very small. This cooler is great as an auxillary cooler, NOT as a primary.

This was purchased to use for day trips in car. It has adequate capacity for lunch plus beverages for 3-4. It keeps things cold even in very hot weather for several hours. The handle has worked well so far. recommended

The bungee on top broke within a week and after 6 months the handle broke while I was carrying it. While it works very well keeping stuff cold it's not very sturdy. REI wouldn't replace it.

Its been about a month, love it so far. Especially like the gasket around the top, great incase it tips over and there is water from the melted it it won't leak.

Bought it for my fishing trip in AK. Worked great for the trip and for the way back to bring my fish. Keeps the temperture nice and cold for a long time.

Took with me on trip to Florida, a 10 hour drive. Ice is supposed to last 36 hours. Didn't even last 8. Will probably be returning.

Been using mine for 3 months I like it and it’s a nice cooler for the day. Getting it on sale is the only way to go though.

Love the cooler, keeps drinks cold and has a strong handle
