Backpacker's Pantry - Chiang Mai Coconut Curry with Beef - 2 Servings

Category: Camp Kitchen

What was that I just ate?! No coconut taste at all. Overwhelming curry flavor, noodles that looked like tape worms. Will not buy again.

This is a great meal from Backpacker's Pantry. After a disappointing meal from the brand Alpine Aire where the rice didn't even reconstitute after 45 minutes. This was a welcome meal. I would recommend it. However, REI really needs to carry Paleo To Go Meals. They don't have a lot of the preservatives of the stuff in Alpine Aire and Mountain House.

In addition to anything else - this stuff tastes excellent. This was amazing after a few days out. I was craving vegetables and this carried through. There's plenty of beef along with it too, but the veggies mixed in were just what my gut needed after all that sugar and starch that so much trail food is made out of.

Eaten on a three trip with my wife. We both agreed that it was neither coconut-y nor curry-y. In opposition to other reviews, we both thought it needed perhaps a half cup of water to be a truly proper texture. I though it was far too sweet. But it was very beefy, and made a nice change from egg noodles or rice.

I have had sorts of dehydrated backpacking meals and this was the worse. There was no flavor except zucchini...lots and lots of zucchini. So if you like zucchini...which i do...but not after a 6.3 mile hike with a 3,000 ft elevation gain...then go for it.

Tried this out after a hike in the north cascades. It was definitely better than people are letting on in the other reviews. It’s freeze dried beef curry. It tastes like it sounds like it will taste.

I've tried my fair share of flavors and this one was plain gross. My distaste for this particular meal is beyond just a personal preference - I couldn't eat more than a couple bites.

My husband and I thought this was a nice thai curry. The coconut added a creaminess that I really liked. Not spicy, but flavorful. Filling for two. I will buy this again.

It wasn't detestable, but I've had better. A bit too liquidy for me. It packed nice and light, and has good calories. But the taste wasn't what I expected I guess.

Shocked to read the one-star reviews, but I have read that certain people's tastebuds register coriander and cilantro as a soap taste. Thankfully I do not have those'

It was just ok. Would not buy again. Wasn't spicy enough per my taste but still edible. If you love coconut curry and not super spicy it should be right for you.

Purchased for 1 day 1 night in out hike. It's probably one of the worst things I've eaten. I could barely eat half of it. Stick with the beef stew.

The coconut aroma makes it hard to wait for hydration to complete. Colorful variety of vegetables, fun noodles, nice textures, delicious flavors.

We were a bit apprehensive of a rehydrated beef curry, but were pleasantly surprised! It was tasty and preparation was very straightforward.

I really wanted this to taste as good as it sounds, but it's not gg to make it into the backpack for the next adventure.

This dinner rehydrates well but flavorless. A bit more spice and curry would probably make it taste better.
