Osprey - Daylite Plus Daypack

Category: Backpack

This is a great, lightweight daypack that is flexible enough for a variety of activities. I primarily bought it to be a day bag while traveling in cities and whatnot, but recently used it at Disneyland. It did a great job. It was well balanced and comfortable. Even though it was a hot day, my back didn't get too sweaty carrying it. The water bottle pockets are fine, but for extra security, I looped the stuff pocket straps through the top loop of my 32oz Hydroflask so if my hydroflask fell out, it would go far. Glad I got it. It will definitely come with me on my next trip. Better than a bag that I paid A LOT more for.

The backpack itself is solid. The pockets are accessible and the zippers are of good quality. The adjustable straps are also a big help.

This bag is just the right size for one person for one day. Not an overnight bag. The bag is comfortable light and nice in several ways. The negative is the outermost pocket, nearly worthless and the worst part are the dual water bottle holders. I found no bottle that would stay in place even at a simple walk on flat ground. Additionally every time I took the bag off any bit of fruit or odd shaped thing I was able to keep in place immediately fell out. Taller pockets, elastic, or some other enclosure would be an improvement. I plan to take the bag back. Not a fan.

These bag are perfect. They are often on sale due to colors going out of season. Great size, super light, but still have a lot of options. My only gripe is that I wish the mesh side pocks had extra material along the bottom edge. I like to put bottles in them sometimes and there is no extra material to act as the bottom despite being stretchy which make the bottom edge very tight. The side pockets also slant forward toward your back but because on the bottom of pocket being so tight bottles tend to be squeezed up and out while walking. If you don't plan on storing bottles in the side pockets I give this bag a 100%

I tried this on in the store with some weight in it, and browsed for a while. Happy I did, because the strap/handle combination on both this and the regular Daylite! I didn’t feel like I could fit it to rest on my shoulders, rather the integrated handle caught all the weight and carried it on the base of my neck. Terrible distribution that way, and really irritated my skin as well.

I really loved this backpack at first; it had great support, laptop sleeve, and just the right size for day hikes. Unfortunately, just as the other reviewer mentioned, the side mesh pockets are awful. I lost my favorite Nalgene bottle because of how loose fitting these pockets are. I was very hopeful and excited to find such a nice, cheaper option for a daypack. The side pockets are so loose, anything will fall out with the slightest movement, so you're forced to use the compression straps to hold your water bottle in place. All this would have taken was a stretch mesh, but for cost saving, they chose this awful design. I met someone hiking who had the same exact problem; they lost their water bottle on the mountain bending down too far. I normally don't make bad reviews, but I feel like this has to be known for anyone looking to buy this backpack. I can't testify for the regular Daylight pack, but this model needs fixing.

Took this on a short 10 day tour: Narita, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Macau, Kowloon. No luggage, just this pack. The rear outside pocket is great for carrying my down jacket, I like the way the straps of the rear pocket angle across the side pockets-holds my folding umbrella. Chest and waist straps transfers the weight. Plenty of room for my Thinkpad x250 in the computer pocket. In this experiment I packed more than I needed, but even fully loaded, it fit under neath the seat of the plane, and of course the overhead compartment. Everyones requirements vary, but this suited me just fine, looking forward to my next trip and packing less.

I bought this for a gym/hiking/work bag. It is big enough to stuff my gym shoes and clothes in it and also enough space to jam my 4 lunch Tupperware containers in with the gym clothes. If you're just putting clothes and not shoes you can get a solid 3 days of clothes in it but if you're wearing shorts it's great for a week.

I bought this for a 30-day trip to Europe. It's got some great features; multiple pockets including two outside that you can access easily; you can stuff it with raingear, books, and inside there are two compartments for sorting your stuff. Very comfortable to wear. There is a major problem with this bag though - the outside pockets do not hold water bottles. They just fall out. If the side pocket had elastic that might help.

Great pack for day hikes. Holds 2L and 3L hydration reservoirs. Light weight with storage space for rain jacket, point and shoot camera, gorilla pod, snacks, sun screen, snake bite kit... Small compartment great for cell phone or camera. Has a little clip on inside pocket to hold your keys. I am 5'10" and the pack works for me.

I am not a minimalist but a “functionalist” when it comes to gear. I wanted something to carry incidentals on short hikes with the dogs or a pack around town. Front pockets give me quick access to keys, wallet, phone (or extra dog waste bags). Enough cargo room to carry extra shirt, towel, collapsible water bowl, whatever. Pleasantly surprised to see this bag works with add-on water bladders, which are also well designed. Only real complaints are side mesh pockets are too shallow for most water bottles (when not using the water bladder) and pack feels a bit narrow when putting on (for those of us with broader shoulders). Good price point, too.

This is my first Osprey pack and I have to say that the brand has really lived up to all of the 'talk' that I have heard about their products. The size of this pack is really good for short day trips/hikes. Nice sized pockets/compartment space. However, the only downside to this pack are, indeed, the side mesh pockets. If the pack is very full, it makes it difficult to fit a water bottle into the mesh pockets. I had to use one of the compression straps to keep my water bottle in place; otherwise, it would have just fallen out. This pack would be better used with a hydration bladder rather than water bottles to avoid the side mesh pockets problem. Overall, great little backpack!

Like many have said, the side mesh can’t hold loaded bottles. But a surprising thing was that the stuff pouch in the middle is perfect for a Hydroflask or any other large thermos.

This is a great pack for folks looking for a lightweight day hiking pack or just something to toss an extra layer or two and some snacks into. The pockets are very well designed to keep things organized, and when properly adjusted its very comfortable. What I really love is how the waist strap can be clipped back out of the way for those who don’t like to use them. Its great for traveling for those who like to pack light. Its not an urban commuter pack. Its not a technical climbing pack. Its not a trail running vest. Its a well designed day pack for people who don’t want to spend an arm and a leg.

I bought this for a day hike in and out of the Grand Canyon. It worked amazingly! My only complaint is that it doesn't have a hole for your water pouch to come out of, I had to poke it out of the bag and hope the zippers were good to stay where I wanted them. Luckily the zippers are really good and it kept my water nice and cool! Would definitely recommend

I used this pack on a 15 day Scandinavian tour. It was perfect! Not too big to get caught on door edges or while wearing in a store, roomy enough for a day's supplies. No problem wearing it when tendering into port from the ship! That is VERY important. Easily fitted under seat in front of me flying to Europe! Light jacket or sweater convieniently stores in the front pouch! A real plus, th small pocket on the front with the vertical zipper stores a passport / tickets for easy access! Experienced no problems with water bottles in the side mesh pouches! Great quality! I highly recommend it!

I returned this pack primarily because it was bigger than what I was looking for. I wanted something for biking that would hold an extra layer, and maybe a few items (bottles) if I decided to go shopping on my ride. But overall, I was disappointed with Osprey's design. The pack has a "marsupial pouch" on the back attached with 2 straps at the upper corners. These straps go over the main zipper, which means you have to unbuckle the pouch in order to open the main compartment. Not only an extra unnecessary step, but further compromises the already sketchy security of an open pouch, adding the risk of stuff falling out while you dig thru the main compartment. Dumb design.

This has been an okay day pack. The main concern that I have with this pack is the size mesh pockets. The elastic is not strong enough and they are not deep enough to hold water bottles. You pretty much have to put your water in the pockets while it is on your back or your bottles will fall out. There is no way of tightening the pockets either. It has held up on backcountry hikes as well as trips to Vegas. I’ve had it for about two years now and it’s held up to the abuse.

I bought this pack for a daily carrier for work essentials. It's the perfect size. Most daypacks are too large for everyday carry to work, but this one is perfect. Osprey did a great job on this with the exception of the mesh pockets. Cant believe they havent revised this yet. If you value your water bottle, run the compression strap through the bottle top or you are guaranteed to lose it. The angled mesh is a fail for carrying a water bottle, but at least you have the strap to run through your bottle. But even after reading all the reviews, and seeing it, it's still a worthwhile pack. All in all, this is a great buy. Not too big, not to small. No more digging elbow deep into a camelbak or daypack trying to find keys, etc. Great buy.

I recently went to Europe and I took this pack. Frankly, I thought it was too small at times, but everything fit and zippers closed easily. I felt that my wallet and go pro was safe when I would take it with me. We seriously had to grab and go from train to train and it was just really nice to know my pack was high quality and I trusted that nothing would come out or break. Thanks Osprey! I added the patch :)

I was hesitant about getting this bag from the beginwith but I heard Osprey was such a great brand, I had to try it. Wanted to use for hiking or day trips. Overall the backpack is nice. Took a little getting used to for the main pocket/ zipper, which I didn’t like. But the main thing that threw me off and why I returned it was because of the water bottle holders / pockets on the side were so stretchy and wouldn’t actually hold my water bottle. The slightest moves would make it fall out. Not sure what I would recommend this for.. I know that it has a spot for a bladder for water but I didn’t want to deal with the cleaning process for those and am completely content with my water bottle.

Bought this pack for a recent trip to Hawaii. Worked great as a carry-on for the plane trip as well as carrying stuff for the beach and a day hike in the Waipio Valley. Very light, but room for plenty of water, change of shirt, camera equipment, binoculars, food, phone and charger. Highly recommend, a great value. Taking it to Europe in a few weeks.

I really like this pack, it's small but versatile enough to use for a day hike with hydration, food and just in case of items: rain shell, flash light... Slim waist belt cuz you don't need a heavy duty one since your load is light (for the size pack it is)... Take out the hydration and put in a medium size laptop or pad, and use as a commuter pack. Gym clothes and shoes would be really cramped in there but doable out of necessity... All in all a good pack!

I was debating between the Daylight and the Daylight Plus and decided to go with the Plus for the extra room and compression strap pocket. I am so glad I did. Since then it has become my go to pack. My main use is for bike commuting and the compression flaps hold my helmet, u lock, and or shoes. The extra room allows for me to pack a change of clothing and have a bit of room to pick up dinner on my way home while still not being too big or bulky- in part because of the compression straps. I use a hydration bladder so I don't know about water bottles falling out but the pockets hold my rainwear just fine and I can even turn the pack upside down without it falling out. It's also a nice bonus that it attaches to my larger backpack for traveling. Normally I don't write reviews but felt it was worth a review to let people know this is a great pack.

This pack is great for hiking. I agree with everyone else about the side pockets being loose, however, if you loop it through your Nalgene bottle and clip it, you won't lose it out hiking. Very light and comfy and held everything I needed for mountain hikes while in Colorado.

Looks like a good backpack if you don't mind fixing the side pockets everyone else is complaining about. I wanted a true red backpack and what I got was a maroon/burgundy/brick red backpack with a dark red pocket and pink stitching. It's hideous.

When reading the description of "unisex," I should have known it wasn't going to work for me. I'm 5'1" with a short torso. This pack, when sitting at my waist, comes to the top of my neck. Very uncomfortable. Had to return it.

I bought this for travel and it was a disappointment: it does not fit under the seat in front of you in coach class on the airlines I take. Furthermore, the yoke fit funny and was uncomfortable. I have another, larger Osprey bag, and it doesn't have this issue. I was told when I returned it (yes, I did that) that the yoke was made to fit Osprey's luggage, not my body. Meh. On the positive side, it had great pockets and space for all the things I needed to organize. I had to take a laptop for work and there was a well-proportioned sleeve to hold it. I used the bag for day trips around the city I was visiting and it held what I needed. I put a 32 oz. water bottle inside the main compartment with ease.

Bought this pack for my wife as a travel/ day hike pack. Perfect size for her. Holds everything she needs to carry whether on plane or a trail. A lot of people complain about the mesh side pockets not holding water bottles. They are not water bottle pockets, it is a hydration pack, use a bladder. Tired of people complaining that a product doesn't do something that it wasn't designed to do.

I bought this pack a few weeks ago and love it! I've used it for hiking and for some school stuff. There is a nice spot where I can put my laptop which is something I was looking for. The only downside which seems to be common are the side pocket. I put the clip through my water bottle loop, but if I didn't it would probably fall out.

I used this day pack for four weeks straight during my summer travels and day adventures or hikes. I love everything about it except the outside straps securing outter pocket. Not sure about the straps. The bag kept my refreshments cold and my things in order wether it was clothing, books, snacks, papers, keys or all the above it.

I do a lot of one bag traveling and have been looking for a less obtrusive/more efficient bag than my trail 40. After testing out half a dozen 28l and under bags, I ended up with the daylite plus. It’s perfect from a size point, easily fitting my 15in laptop with just enough built in padding, a change of clothes (I do the wool thing), and have enough compartments for some hard drives, toiletries and a few other trip specific necessities. The bag cinches down well but can also loosen up to fit a bigger jacket and the external pocket is useful for food or other awkwardly shaped things. The only issue, as everyone else pointed out, is the mesh pockets, which are really poorly designed if used for water bottles. I either have to be careful when I do use it for a bottle, or I just use a carabiner cap. The mesh pockets are good for damp thing or shopping so I still find them useful. All in all, its size and versatility made it the perfect bag for my needs, so five stars!

Good backpack with a spot for a camelback and lots of straps as well as side pockets!!!

This thing is so handy! I have a hydration bag from a janspprt and it slid in perfectly! It is roomy enough for the stuff you need to kill an entire day! Best purchase I have made since my AG! Osprey has mad game with their gear!

I've had my Daylite Plus for almost 3 years now. I absolutely love it. It's sturdy and holds up well -- I've taken it on trains, airplanes, and every trail I ever go on. When traveling, I can easily fit a week's worth of clothes in the pack.

Lightweight and very comfortable. I wish it had one more zippered compartment, but I can get by. The reason for 3 stars was that it doesn't hold water bottles. The water bottle fall out without too much effort. I had to stop putting the water bottles in the two side meshed compartments and use the center external compartment instead. I thought about 4 stars, but this was a major drawback. A great backpack otherwise.

I purchased the pack because the compartments were laid out to my liking. It's a fine bag as long you don't intend to carry water in the side mesh compartments.

This pack was just right. Plenty of space and easy access for hydration pack. Pockets for other necessities.

The mesh pockets absolutely do not hold any type of water bottle securely. You bend forward, out come your water bottles. This is a complete waste of a purchase. By far the worst thing I've ever purchased at REI. Serves me right for buying online.

I took this out for some day hikes and great space for water bladder, layers, snack, and everything else. I like the pockets. My one complaint is the side sleeves for water bottles... everything falls out of them as they are angled weird and the elastic is not very tight. The pockets need to be deeper at least. But overall really like this pack!

I agree with other reviewers that the mesh water bottle holders are pretty much useless. the bottle flops to one side and easily falls out. If not for that, it would be a perfect daypack or additional under the seat airline luggage. I returned mine and exchanged it for the Arcteryx Sebring 25 available on the outlet site and Love it!

This pack is comfortable to wear except for the cross-chest strap, which is too high. Also, the outer mesh pockets are too large/loose to securely hold water bottles, which fall out easily when the pack is taken off or put on. Those pockets need adjustable straps. Overall, the pack does what I need despite these design flaws.

This is a nice size daypack for me. Holds all,I need plus food and treats for my four legged hiking buddy. Yes, the side pockets are not great for anything but a map (water bottles slide out easily) but I use a hydration bladder, so it's not an issue. Also, it connects to my Ospry Exos 48!

I was really excited about this bag at first but after a few hikes, and now daily use, this bag is ok. The side pockets are to loose and shallow to hold a Nalgene or even a small arrowhead type bottle. The extra pocket in the front is nice but it really doesn't add much. The straps that connect the front pouch to the rest of the backpack get in the way of accessing the main compartment. This makes the bag feel extremely tight when reaching in to grab something, even when you unclip the attachments.

Bought this pack to replace my daily heavy duty Tactical pack, in efforts to downsize and minimize. It has worked out perfectly! Typically carries my 15 inch macbook,a book or two, my small lunch bag and snacks, re chargeable battery bank, all associated cables and whatever else I feel I need in a day. I work 12 hours shift in emergency services so it does see some rough wear and is holding up great. The pack feels great on the back, and for me seems to fit very well. I am 5'5" average build.

This is the 3rd packsack - returned 2 and am keeping this one. IT is just the right size, has enough pockets and separators. Great for hand carryon on plane; great for backpacking for day trips.

The pack was great except for one flaw, the hanging loop can make for an uncomfortable carry if the straps are tight. I like to run and it rubs against my neck. All and all I’m satisfied

In terms of space it is ideal as a daypack. There are two problems with it though: the side pockets are not tight and big enough for bottles. My 20oz hydroflask falls out of it if I do not pay attention to it during movement. You can use the front bag for storing the bottle, but it then limits the internal space of the bag. Another problem is that it does not stay straight and needs to lean on something. It also slips on metal or wood chairs, like the ones in coffee shops.

I’ve been using this back while a family member stays in the hospital, for almost a month now. I carry my rain jacket, a small computer (Microsoft Surface), and a few little things like flashlight, glasses. I have had to put other clothing items and other miscellaneous things in it to take back and forth. It has done well. There is not really a perfect place for a water bottle, because I think this pack simply wasn’t designed for that. However, I put my Hydroflask in the Middle outer pouch, with my toboggan, and tighten the outer straps, and it stays there just fine. The side pockets are more for miscellaneous items. It does have ample storage for a wide range of creative needs. However, this pack is clearly not designed to carry a lot of weight, you would have to go with a bigger daypack. This is more for carrying jacket, clothing layers, accessories, food, and a water bladder. I’m happy with it. About the shoulder straps, if it has a substantial amount of weight, just clip the sternum strap and pull it tighter to bring the straps inward on your chest, and they will pull completely away from your armpits; and you can also modify this by pulling down on on the bottom shoulder straps.

Awesome pack that I use just about every day! Love the extra storage on the outside!

Love this pack. Bought it for an international trip as a daypack and overnight excursion pack. It’s perfect size, light and very comfortable. Two small criticisms: Osprey makes plenty of packs designed for urban life with a padded laptop/tablet section, and I wish they reallocated the design/materials funds on this one for another pocket in the bag. And, the outer pocket that’s secured with clips makes it too easy for contents to fall out. I’d buy it again though.

Love the quality and it's really lite for traveling.

My son just got one of these to go to the National Boy Scout Jamboree. As others noted....the side web pockets won't work with many water bottles. In our case we found some water bottles that will work but in any case he will use the 3 liter bladder Osprey sells for it. Make sure you get the latest 3 liter one with the stiffener for best durability. As far as space it will be OK as a day pack but I compared to my Gregory which, while not having as many pockets, has a lot more useable space. I am not a big fan of lots of pockets as they are less efficient for storage space....better to have a larger big opening what you can stuff things in....use small stuff sacks to organize if necessary. Construction seems to be fine and should hold up well. Zippers are good and overall materials are appropriate for use a day pack recieves.

This is my EDC. Light enough to carry stuff that I need. Not too big nor small and light enough to carry for work or hiking. It has a hydration bladder compartment at the back in which I don't use for now. My co-worker saw this when I was at work and bought one too for himself. The only con is the side netted pockets which do not hold water bottles strong enough, they tend to slip and fall. I can only put small items or my extra eyeglasses with a case.

I have multiple Osprey packs and was surprised that this one doesn't hold water bottles well at all! The pack offers great organization compartments and it's great numerous activities: MTB, hiking, and even traveling around.

I bought this bag as an urban commuter bag. I commute to and from work on the bus or on the subway, and need to take a few things, such as snacks, books and work files, phone, keys, pens, a small notebook, and kindle. I don't take a laptop back and forth. Compared to some commuters, I travel fairly lightly, so I wanted a smaller backpack.

I bought this to match with the Osprey Sojourn 45. I wanted bags that would fit all of my gear (scuba, hiking, etc.) and would never have to check when flying. The biggest problem with both of these bags is that they should come with instructions. There are so many features that I had to keep going videos to find out what they are for. I am so glad that I got these bags and can't wait to get back out there and travel.

This is a good lightweight commuter pack. It has a thin padded sleeve that can hold smaller laptops (if you don't throw it around, it's not thick padding).

I bought this pack for my daily biking commute. It is perfect for fitting groceries in, and daily lunches. I love all the different compartments to keep things clean and organized and it's such a beautiful backpack, I love wearing it! The only thing I've run in to is that the water bottle holder on the side doesn't fit any of my bottles so they just end up falling out. I use the open pocket for my bottles now.

I had this bad while studying abroad in Germany. It was wonderful for day trips and bike tours, etc. Once, I made it four days in Amsterdam with all of my clothes packed into that little bag! It's a work horse. I had this and the bigger version that it clips onto. I wasn't as happy with the other product because it got very heavy and the weight was distributed incorrectly. However, this product served me well!

I have had this pack for a couple of years and used it on a number of day hikes, including some longer ones. I also secured it to the outside of a larger pack on a backpacking trip once, and that worked well, too. I have also used it to ski, which works great because it is light and compact so not too bulky with a thick coat and sitting on a lift. It is comfortable for me all day. The complaints about the side pockets are accurate, but truthfully you could say that about a lot of packs, so I wouldn't let that dissuade you. Two suggestions for that: 1) use a water bladder (there is a dedicated pocket for one). 2) add a carabiner to the side strap above the pocket and use a water bottle with a loop on the top and secure with the carabiner. I've found water bottles stay in just fine that way. Also, you just need to be aware it's purposefully small and the pockets are helpful but limited. If you're looking for a compact, functional, comfortable daypack, this is a good one.

Got this specifically for running to work because I wanted something light and with a waist strap to keep the bag from bouncing around. It's great for running but also day hikes. It holds a reservoir plus space for climbing shoes/snack/extra layer.

Used the D+ for a travel daypack while traveling Ireland and N Ireland. Packed it full and used it daily while hiking and visiting various sites. I didn’t use a rain cover and it did just fine. I noticed several others in my travel group used the same daypack along with various other Osprey packs. It’s a well made daypack and I’d certainly recommend it for purchase and consideration....

I use the pack for traveling by air as my carry-on bag and as a day pack while exploring. The size is nice, holds the necessities inside and the outer pocket will hold water bottles, light jacket and the pack fits easily under the airline seat. Only features I would like is a pen pocket or two inside the smaller zipped compartment and slightly larger mesh side pockets for water bottles.

All osprey needed to do was to add 2 cinched elastic cords to secure water bottles. I've busted my toe dropping a metal water bottle. Yesterday biking home, my water bottle fell not once, but twice. Rest of the backpack is great, but this issue affects me every time I use the bag.

This product was purchased in December 2016 as a gift. At this point, it is being used only as a "work daypack" -- carrying papers/books, laptop/mobile phone, jacket/personal gear, and food. Owner is very satisfied with this Osprey (his previous daypack was an Osprey), saying it is a practical, well designed, and quality pack. It is a unit he would strongly recommend to others.

I’ve been using this day pack for almost a year. Love the overall layout and the mesh on the back, keeps my back more dry than other packs. However, the mesh side pockets stretched out quickly, and the straps that go over your shoulders don’t have the best placement (feels like they put a ton of pressure on your shoulders). Ok for short periods of time, but could use improvement.

This pack does not come with a bladder, but it was exactly what we needed. We were able to put the bladder we already owned in this daypack and it fit perfectly. We were also able to carry more with us on the trails. The pack itself is relatively light and has a lot of pockets to put gear and food in. The straps are perfectly adjustable and will fit a man or woman just fine.

I love this pack but also have the same issue as everyone else--the water bottle mesh/elastic becomes looser after several uses. I am happy to see someone's suggestion of the baby diaper pin, and will try it. I hope Osprey reads these reviews so they can fix this problem. Otherwise I love it, and I love how Osprey packs come with the waist and chest straps for support!

Seems like a great pack but I can't wear it. My other Osprey packs are xs/s and are super comfortable. The way this one is designed, the handle on top gets pulled to horizontal and cuts into my neck if I tighten the straps so that the pack sits properly. If I wear it lower so the handle isn't a problem, the hip belt is several inches too low.

Not for cold-weather or long trips where you need a bunch of clothing or gear, but certainly a good pack for a day hike and a city lugger. It holds a regular file folder and laptop along with other goodies you want to have with you in a slim package. It's comfortable although the waist strap is a bit skinny for real support, but adequate for the day. Nice touch is the slot against your back for water reservoir (or newspapers and other slim items) as well as the interior, strapped and padded slot for the reservoir or laptop/tablet. The outside front sleeve will easily hold your raincoat and other gear and can be strapped snug. Main compartment is surprisingly commodious for 20 liters. The front pouch also has a useful small zippered pocket that compliments the larger organizer pocket. Like other Ospreys, I wish the water bottle mesh pocket had a strong elastic to hold in the bottle or other gear. Nice day pack and good for carry on for longer trips. .

I bought this for an international trip, where I wanted a lightweight pack to use during the day when sightseeing. It worked great for this, as well as for international flights - enough room for book, electronics, toiletries, slippers, and travel pillow. For a pack this size and weight, it had a good number of pockets and pouches.

I got this to carry or food, water, & emergency supplies on photo hikes. I took it to Lansford Canal State Park. I had 3 quarts of drinks, food, & other supplies & really did forget I had it on. I love the whistle in the chest strap. My husband for so jealous he wanted to see if the Pineville store had another.

I bought this in anticipation for a two and a half week trip through Europe. At first the pack seems kind of small, but man did it pull through! The material is very good quality and still looks brand new! Although it is not waterproof it kept my valuables safe on a rainy day in Scotland. Very comfortable!

I was looking for a small, light, narrow/slim, comfortable backpack that would allow me to carry (and bike with) my laptop, a few books and notebooks and a jacket. The Osprey Daylight does a great job in satisfying all of those criteria. I'm especially pleased with how comfortable it is walking or biking.

So far I’ve been impressed. It’s big enough for a full size jetboil, food, and 3L of water if you pack it right. You can even store your jacket on the outside of the packwith other gear you carry. Only gripe is that the straps are almost too small. I’m 6’ 250#. But it’s still comfortable and looks good.

This bag is the perfect size for those day hikes when you still want to carry all the essentials... first aid kit, emergency kit, snacks, camera, blanket, personal items, and lots of water. Love all the pockets and space this small bag has to offer. Comfortable to carry it's my go to bag for day hikes

I originally wanted this bag to attach to my Atmos backpack, but it wouldn’t work with that bag. I just used it on a camping trip and I stored all the food in it and used it as my water source (hydration pack) It’s comfortable and seems to be durable also. Plenty of room for odd bits and pieces.

Great little pack. I used it for my daughter's 7th grade field trip and now using it as a carry on pack for a week trip in Massachusetts. Really like it for urban travel. Have yet to use it for a day pack in the wild. Plan on using it in Colorado as a day pack to go in a 65L pack.

I have way too many day packs. They all have their pluses. The Osprey pulls all those pluses together. Fits well, like the back support, nice pocket selection. One flaw is side pockets - water bottles fall out. I added a short para cord lanyard with clip to fix that flaw

The only downside to this good day pack is the water bottle holders are too short and you have to put the retaining strap through the lid of the water bottle so it doesn't fall out. Otherwise, this is a good day pack for short hikes (8 miles or so) or in the city.

Very happy with this bag. Attractive color, very well made with quality materials. I find all the extra little pockets quite convenient. Purchased this pack to serve as by day bag while on a year-long trip around the globe. Supplementing my Osprey Farview 40 pack.

I needed a backpack for shorter day hikes and this is perfect. The only thing I don't love is the outside pouch that is hooked on on each side. It is not a huge deal, but is a little weird to me. But for the price this was a perfect backpack for what I needed.

Great size, fits a lot of items for short day hike. Price was right. Only complaint is water bottle doesn't stay in sleeve if I bent over. Maybe user issue/size of my bottle. Used it while traveling for long weekend back from Colorado. Worked well on plane.

I wanted to like this bag but I have 2 main complaints -

I bought the backpack for hauling my stuff from the car to the office. It holds my laptop easily in the padded sleeve and there is enough room for my other equipment and stuff. The side mesh pockets are useful for winter hats and gloves but not much else.

Got this bag for day hikes and travel, It is the perfect size, took it with us to Vietnam for two weeks for day trips and walking around, it was very comfortable and the straps did not dig into my shoulders. I am a small frame. Would buy this bag again

This backpack is the perfect medium size! Big enough to fit my school stuff in if needed, but small enough for a day hike! I've already been hiking with it and was very pleased with the padded backing and the water bladder space. Exactly what I needed!

Used to replace an ancient Camelback. Carries a little bit easier. For heavy loads the shoulder straps are a little thin, but the chest strap really helps. I wish the small zippered inside pocket were deeper. The hydration system pocket works well

Needed something a little more ergonomic than my really old lumbar pack. My larger day pack also had an issue with some stitching. This pack was a great middle ground. A little larger than the lumbar pack, very comfortable, well balanced.

I think this is an excellent day pack with great value. The pack was exactly how it appeared in the demo video, and is very comfortable and fits just right on my back. There is great ventilation and the red is a very nice color.

Constant travel companion for the car and plane -medium trips, around the world. Simply remove electronics and it has room to get you by for a couple days. It will get you home or until the airline finds your pack or suitcase.

I bought this day pack about a month ago and it’s working out great. My only complaint is that it’s a little too small for a medium build male. If you can get over the fact that it’s going to look small on you it’s a great buy.

Been using this backpack for about a month now. Fits good, comfortable and has enough space for essentials. Only negative, like other reviews, side pocket needs to be redesign to hold water bottles and other items.

I really love this backpack! The pockets are just perfect for a day pack and overnight bag. It holds just enough of everything I need. The color is beautiful and it fits me perfectly with all the adjustable straps.

I've already been on several day hikes with this pack as well as a music festival. It holds all you need for a day hike plus plenty of hydration with it's space for a reservoir and side pockets for bottles.

I needed a new backpack for day hikes and this is perfect. It has great compartments, the zipper pulls are super easy to grab and hold, even with gloves on. The back and straps are very comfortable.

This is a decent pack if you're just using it around town. But if you're using it for day hiking or traveling I found the shoulder straps to be too thin - they just didn't have much padding.

beautiful pack, well organized, looks pretty durable. i bought it for another person (kinda short) and it doesn't fit as well as i'd like, but the person i bought for is very happy with it

Bought this item, to go with my Osprey Porter, and I recently used it. I loved it. The feature that it goes outside my Porter Backpack is a space saver. Would recommend this product.

I bought this to bring with me on a month long trip to Europe to serve as my weekend bag. I am able to pack for a 4 day trip in it, I love it. The bag is durable and comfortable.

Makes packing gear for mountain biking very easy. Perfect amount of space for biking. Also bought it for skiing and fits an extra layer or two with room for snacks and water.

We bought this for our 4th grade son to use as his school backpack. It has served him well this year and it is a fantastic pack. I’m sure he’ll be using it for years to come.

I bought this as a travel day pack to take when flying to some destination. It’s a good design to carry everything you need. Tablet, food, water & jacket. it works for me.

I love the color the look and just about every part of this backpack. Its very versatile and has useful compartments. Great for hiking, traveling, or just daily life.

Very comfortable to wear when stuffed with day-hiking items. Can hold a hydration pack, but if you use a water bottle it needs to be in zippered part of bag.

Love this daypack. My son needed a bigger pack and we went to look at REI and found this bag on sale and it fit him perfect with lots of room for him to grow.

My daughter told me that the Osprey Daylite Plus Daypack she has had for years finally needed to be replaced. Ask for the exact same one.

I bought this for my husband, he loves it. The pack is light and fits well, the pockets provide needed access and storage space.

I absolutely love this pack. It is extremely comfortable when worn all day and flexible enough for small or large loads.

Love this little pack Keys, Bennie, gym clothes, hat BEERS, keys money$$ Ray-Ban, great travel pack for flying

This bag is so light and comfortable, I barely noticed it during my 16 mile Lost Lake hike. Awesome!

side pouch not sturdy enough for a water bottle. (useless) Purchased for Mt. biking. Not good.

Holds everything you could need for a 1 day hike and sits nice on my back with the straps.

This pack is perfect as a day pack for trail, or city use, I would recommend it to anyone.

We chose this pack for its bright color, light weight and the hydration pack slot in the main compartment (to have a separate compartment for a travel potty seat for our toddler). It fits well for us at 5'1" and 5'7. We use it everyday and take it everywhere. I like the stash pocket at the top front because it has two mesh pockets for our meds and enough room left over for phones, sunglasses, keys, etc. But the biggest disappointment are the mesh side pockets which are intended for water bottles. These pockets just don't cut it. Forget an adult size 20oz bottle - these flimsy and loose patches of mesh won't even hold a kid's 10oz bottle with a non-slip silicone exterior. Every bottle of water we've put in these pockets have fallen out within minutes if not seconds. They should have reduced the amount of fabric in that front compression flap and put the weight into a taller side pocket with a cinch. Since the water bottle pockets don't work for anything but crumpled tissues and paper trash, we use the compression flap to hold the kid's water bottle but this is not ideal because when you release the flap's buckles, the water bottle falls out. This would be a five-star pack otherwise.

Never been disappointed by an Osprey Product. This is my third Daylight, not desperately needed but irresistible because of the additional features. Daylite Mk.1 was little more than a sack, a useful accessory for the travel packs to which it attaches. I used Mk.2 with enhanced features, including side pockets for water bottles, extensively as a daypack when hiking in the UK in 2014. Since you are never far from human habitation in the UK, a small pack is all that is needed unless you want to carry a large lunch. Mk.3 took my fancy because a light Goretex jacket or other garment can be carried outside the main sack under the back flap. The pack I chose had become separated from its companions and was hanging with some other Osprey daypacks. After I had resumed my return journey to Australia, I noticed that the stitching on the loop at the end of one of the shoulder straps, designed to prevent it slipping out of the buckle, was missing. This is all but unheard of in an Osprey product but easily remedied even by someone as ham fisted with a needle and thread as I am. I had not used the pack and found this small defect when I was removing the labels. My confidence in Osprey is unshaken.

Exchanged this for an overnight pack and love the size. Much easier to carry for me!

Water bottles fall out of pockets. I needed to use a bladder for my water.

My wife loves it , she wears it shopping and want to buy me one.

I picked up the Osprey Daylite Plus as a lightweight and breathable option to help carry a change of clothes, planner, and small Chromebook laptop to and from work via bike commute. It works super well for that— though there isn’t room for much else. The pack stays in place on my back thanks to the adjustable chest and waist straps. Other pros: it has a lot of nooks and crannies to put random things (keys, small wallet, etc.), ventilates decently well on hot, humid days, kept my things inside the pack dry during light-moderate rain without using a separate rain cover, and dries extremely quick. I’ve also used the pack on weekends for day hikes. This is where the pack shines! It’s the perfect size to fit day hike necessities, without being overstuffed. The sleeve for the hydration reservoir is easily accessible, and I love that it loads on the outside of the pack to avoid getting any of the necessities on the inside of the pack damp. A couple of things I would change if I had a magic wand: if you jam-pack the front top pocket to capacity, it does tend to take up space inside the pack (rather than expanding outward). Also, if you have a water bottle in one of the side mesh pouches, it can be hard to grab and replace while wearing the pack. These were definitely not deal-breakers for me, though, and I would definitely buy this pack again.

I had a somewhat unusual intent for this bag: I was looking for a bag to transport my road racing stuff (jacket, waterbottle, gels, bib, etc.) to bagcheck at road races. The bag had to be able to fit inside of the plastic bags they give you to store things at marathons and the like (so, 18" tall or less). And I wanted to be able to run with the bag (if I was running late) for 1-2 miles to and from the start line. I considered the Daylite Plus and the Daylite, and ended up choosing the Daylite > the DL Plus. First let me note the ways these 2 models differ:

Is this backpack water resistant? I know that in another question it was asked if the pack is water proof and the answer was no, but it'd be good to also know if it is water resistant.

This daypack is water resistant and can shed light rain. For heavier rain, a rain cover is recommended. The small Osprey High Visibility Raincover is a great choice.

Is there any way this could connect to the kyte bag?

This daypack and the Kyte are not designed to be compatible, however, it may work if you improvise.

Jsanchez109

I want to use this pack for school. will it keep my laptop safe or should I look at other options?

Thank you for your question! This pack has a padded, multi-function interior sleeve for a hydration reservoir or a tablet or small laptop.

Where can I find more pictures of the Desert Orange Bag? I’d love to see the back of it, but it’s not pictured here or on the Osprey site.  What color are the accents and straps?

As of October 2018, all available pictures are currently posted on this page.

What torso and shoulder size is this pack designed for? I'm a petite woman, so I want to make sure this pack will fit comfortably.

Good question. The length of this pack is 17.5 inches, and the back panel width is 8.5 inches.

In the pictures of the available colors the bag in the picture for orange has what appears be an outdoor setting. Should it actually be a solid color as are the other colors? I would sincerely appreciate your time and answer. Thank you!

The desert orange has a print on it versus the magma orange which is a solid color.

SINCE A COMMON COMPLAINT IS THE SIDE MESH AND THEIR IS NO EVIDENCE THAT THIS ISSUE IS BEING ADDRESSED, WHAT IS YOUR RECOMMENDATION FOR A DAYPACK WITHOUT THESE PROBLEMS?

We have not received excessive feedback regarding the mesh on this pack. If you'd like us to make recommendations for your specific end use, please give us a call at 1-800-426-4840.

kc123

What are the dimensions of the hydration reservoir pouch?

The hydration reservoir pocket measures 17 x 10 inches.

ashleyn

Is there a spot for the reservoir hose and an outside clip or loop for the mouthpiece? One of the reviews seems to say that there isn't a dedicated exit for the hose from the bladder pocket and that he was concerned routing it through the normal zippers..

The pack has large opening to insert a reservoir and the hose can be routed through a nylon loop on either shoulder strap.

chilcomb

Now Jan. 2018. His issue of side pockets losing water bottles been addressed?

As of January 2018, the side mesh pockets on this pack have not been redesigned. If your water bottle has a cap with a loop (similar to a 32 ounce Nalgene bottle) the bottle can be secured using the compression straps/buckles on the pack.

Vicki23

This pack can accommodate up to a 3 liter hydration reservoir.

Joey

I have the osprey fair point 40. Would this be able to attach to that pack?

The only Farpoint pack this pack is compatible with is the Farpoint 80, so it will not attach to your pack.

Emerson

Would this be good for a 12yr old and also any recommendations a dayback for hiking and under $70

This will work for a 12 year old. It is an adult daypack, so the torso length will be longer than a kids-specific pack. Please call us at 1-800-426-4840 and we can make further recommendations if necessary.

holnder

Hi there! I am doubting about getting the osprey daylite plus backpack, i am not sure if my 15 inch macbook will fit in it. I hope someone who got some experience with the bag can tell me :) Thanks!

The Osprey Daylite Plus Daypack holds a 15 inch MacBook.

gonnagetfit

Kwscty

This daypack is not compatible with the Aura 65. The pack is only compatible with the Aether/Ariel Series, Volt/Viva Series, Ace 75, Shuttle Series, Sojourn Series, Farpoint 80, and Porter Series.

Not a knife expert

Spec for Regular is 18x9x9 and 13 l vs the Plus at 18x10x9 for 20 l. 1 in difference in width doesn't seem enough to bring the capacity from 13 to 20 L? What makes the Plus so much larger?

These dimensions and liter sizes were confirmed with Osprey. For further information, we recommend contacting Osprey directly.

Miranda

Does this bag connect to the Aura 65?

This pack does not attach to Aura 65 pack.

rick59

Is the hydration pocket large enough to hold the Deuter Streamer 3L bladder?

There is enough room to accommodate the Deuter Steamer 3L reservoir.

Toadspotter

Is the hydration pocket large enough for a platypus 3L? They are longer and slimmer than osprey and definitely longer than camelbaks. They measure 17.2" x8.8". It seems it would be close but may be dysfunctional with not an extra inch for it to hang.

The hydration sleeve in this pack is just large enough for the Platypus 3L hydration reservoir.

Michael

How does this pack attach to the Aether 70?

There are 4 tri-glide slider buckles on the side of the Daylite Plus Daypack and 4 coordinating, reinforced cord loops on the Aether front panel. Push the tri-glide buckles lengthwise through the cord loops. Finally, turn the trig-lides so they do not slide back through the cord loops.

MovingForward17

Will this Osprey pack hold a 3 Liter Camelbak hydration reservoir?

The Daylite Plus Daypack will hold a 3 liter reservoir.

catdu

Does the Daylite Plus have the same  external hydration bladder pocket, as the Daylite does? I can't quite tell from the pictures.

The Daylite Plus Daypack does have an external sleeve for a hydration reservoir.

ChipmunkNEB

How does this pack hold up in rain? Light or heavy?

The Daylite Plus Daypack is water resistant. Water can seep through in a heavy downpour.

Justin welshy

What other pack is the daylite plus compatible with?

The Daylite Plus is compatible with the Aether/Ariel Series, Volt/Viva Series, Ace 75, Shuttle Series, Sojourn Series, Farpoint 80 and Porter Series from Osprey.

hiker2

Is this attachable to Porter packs? How does it attach

There are 4 triglide slider buckles on the side of the Daylite Plus Daypack and 4 coordinating, reinforced cord loops on the Porter's front panel. Push the triglide buckles lengthwise through the cord loops. Finally, turn the triglides so they do not slide back through the cord loops.

J Ho

is this the update model of Osprey Daylite in 2016? As I cannot find in the Osprey website. Thanks

The Daylite Plus Daypack is a new model from Osprey that is exclusive to REI. It has 7 liters more gear capacity compared to the original Daylite and will still attach to compatible Osprey packs such as the Aether and Ariel.
