Co-op Cycles - DRT 1.1 Bike

Category: Bikes

We recently purchased this bike for my 11yo son, and is his first geared and off-road bike. Despite some early concerns about the 27.5" wheels, the size small fits him great and he's able to handle the large wheels with ease. Great quality and materials for the price. I couldn't match this quality anywhere for the same price.

Picked up my CO-OP DRT 1.1 yesterday. A beautiful bike with quality components. Put in some good miles today and I have to say that for a commuter/trail-rider like myself this is an unbelievable ride for only $500. Hydraulic disc-brakes! I'm in love.

The only suprise was the ease in use on pavement. And wide ha dle bar. Great bike.

I was happy with the bike for the first 5miles, but the rear derailure broke when down shifting to go uphill, and rei replaced it for me for free, which again was great. I took it out for the first ride with the new derailure and it broke in the same place, less then 100ft later. So, very disappointed

Well, what I can say definitively about this bike is that after 4 weeks of zero exercise at all (due to a tough clinical rotation), it dragged me through 21 miles of great trail riding today. I did a lot of research into "entry-level" mountain bikes and came to the conclusion that the DRT 1.1 was the best value for the money - and I am very happy and satisfied after my initial ride. The bike felt very sturdy absorbing every bump, and the feeling of the hydraulic brakes was a welcome change from rim brakes; the braking seemed smoother and more consistent. The bike looks terrific - the blue/gray matte finish is very sleek and understated (no excessive graphics); I may get red pedals and water-bottle holder for contrast. The seat was actually very comfortable; usually after a ride of that length I can feel it in my gluteus maximus for hours afterwards - fortunately not the case here. All in all, I think it is fantastic that REI can offer such a nice package of features and components for this price - I can see myself riding this bike for a long time. Another good example of REI being able to determine what members want and provide a high-quality product that outperforms similar items in the marketplace.

I've had my DRT 1.1 out about 4 times on singletrack. It works really well, so far my only concern is that I may have to upgrade the front suspension and pedals sooner than later. It may be worth looking at the next model up if you plan to move quick and hit some jumps hard. Also pay attention to the shipment options as it's a lot cheaper to pick it up in store than have it shipped to your house if buying online.

I compared this with Fezzari's Lone Pike, it had almost the same components. This was cheaper, local and of course comes with the REI warranty. I have ridden it for about 10 hours and thrice my chain came out, I had to get down and put it back. I am sure this will be taken care off during the 1st tune up. I will change it to 5 stars if my chain issue gets resolved after the tune up.

Was interested in mountain biking. And like many I didn’t want to spend 1k for a bike. I absolutely love this bike. Everything about this bike is plenty for someone to get into the sport. I would definitely recommend this bike!

I bought this during a sale. First bike as an adult so I don’t have a deep knowledge of bikes. I use it as a commuter around the city with a rack and it’s great. I also changed to urban all terrain tires for speed on pavement. As with any bike (or car), you have to do some occasional maintenance and checks. This is normal and necessary for safety. Not a fancy bike, but solid and has some nice features like disc breaks. The seat is comfortable. I’ll try riding some trails this summer. I would recommend buying it on sale.

I'm new into the biking world and this bike has been great. I do some off road trails and some road riding and it's great for both

I used to be a bike tech and was skeptical of a bicycle "sponsored" by a retail store, but they recently opened a brick and mortar near me. I went to go check out their bikes during the annual sale as I was trying to get my two boys bikes so we can all ride together. As soon as I saw these bikes in person I was amazed at the fit and finish as well as the value for the money. A bike just four hundred bucks with an all aluminum frame, hydraulic disc brakes, and more bike for the money and the big brands......SOLD. Definitely not disappointed.

I used the bike on 4 long rides, plenty of hard jumps and technical sections, so far I am very impressed with the performance of this bike.

I've had "Cooper Dirt" for three months. It's a solid, well-built bike with first-rate components. Slick shifting, and - with the hydraulic disks - sure stopping. The finish is a dull powder coat that looks very durable. Only one negative comment: there is only ONE water bottle braze-on. This is not a Cheapskate feature; the frame geometry just doesn't work for two water bottles within the triangle.

This was my first time at REI. The employees there are great people who love talking about the hobbies they share with you. This bike has surprised me in every way. I upgraded from a "top of the line" Walmart bike after breaking it in half. This bike is built for jumps and control unlike any cheaper bike. The brakes are better than most people's car brakes.

The rei 1.1 is a great bike for the price best investment i have done

Hydraulic brakes and smooth shifting . Great value

I’ve had this bike for a month now and I love it. Much faster than my last hybrid bike. Great shocks and brakes. My only concern is the seat. To me it’s comfortable to sit on but rough when sitting and peddling. has any other male Had issues with the seat?

I have the men's medium bike. It is quite a bit larger than my road bike, but the additional size is due to how sturdy it is! The bike handles great, has enough options for gears that it handles any hill on dirt, asphalt, and "light" sandy patches.

I've had my new bike for a month and love it. Though I haven't taken it off road yet, I can ride up and down curbs, through road construction, on grass, bridges and uneven surfaces and I am completely confident in the response of the tires and the bike.

This is my first bike for riding single track trails and it had worked great. This bike gets the job done at a great price point and handles the trails with ease. The only complaints I have on this bike would be the the front fork compresses too easily, the gears don’t shift that great but that can be tuned, the shifter cables are too long. Having said that you’re not going to get a better bike for the money new and the improvements suggested likely couldn’t happen at the price point.

The DRT 1.1 is a very good off road bicycle, it's all the off road bike I'll ever need.

love the bike for the past two years / really need the replacement part info for the bottom bracket crank bearing set for the drt 1.1 i am pretty sure it’s a shimano cartridge ?

This bike looks nice online, but go in store and you will see how amazing it looks. I just bought one and it is super!!! Perfect bike for any one starting to ride.

First of all, REI’s customer service was the best. We went to several cycle shops with my son for his 14th birthday looking for a good fit for his skill level. We mostly ride on fire roads in DuPont Forest, greenway trails and occasionally some of the easier stuff in Pisgah Forest. This Co Op bike was the best value and fit my sone like a glove. We toad about an hour and the gears never failed, the brakes were safe and reliable and the smile on my son’s face was priceless.

The Coop has taken me to some amazing places. I'm not an aggressive biker, but have been riding it hard for the last two months. I'm super happy to report that I have not had to replace any parts during that time and have been impressed with the bike's quality. It's durable, reliable, and although it doesn't have all the bells and whistles is a great price for a solid bike to get out on the trails with.

So far I have put about 4 miles on, 1 mile on roads, 3 on trails. My biggest complaint with only a few miles on it is the saddle. Since I am using this bike on surface streets and trails I'm going to be upgrading to a saddle with more padding. With a softer saddle I would give this bike 4 stars.

I recently got into mountain biking. I'm 23, 6' and 260 lbs so I was a little hesitant on buying a bike. Before the 1.1 I had a Raleigh cross country bike that couldn't cut it. The DRT 1.1 handles quite well, runs right over roots and rocks, and is incredibly easy to bunny hop. It rides smooth, shifts quickly, and offers a fantastic set of components for the price.

My grandson is thrilled with this bike as he had outgrown his old bike but needed a small bike with good performance.

I have had this bike for a year. It sat in the garage for about 10 months. The second time I took it out the back wheel came off. As I was trying to replace the pedals I discovered that they threaded it wrong! Other than that the bike has decent ride I wouldn't buy this bike again or recommend it though.

Decent bike for beginners. The seat becomes loose pretty easily. The reason for the 3 stars is that the price dropped after 2 weeks after the purhase date and I was unable to get a refund for the difference. Bummer

For the price this is a great bike. Fun to ride...

Nice bike mtb, especially for the price. REI is a solid company and I’m pleased again with their brand.

This bike is the best I've ever had in my life. It's just perfect!

what is the replacement part for the bottom bracket on the drt 1.1 large frame ? i’m pretty sure it’s a square cartridge by shimano but i need to replace mine soon and want to order a replacement without having to remove it to see the part number .

This bike has a 73 x 122.5mm square cartridge bottom bracket. The model number is UN55 from Shimano.

Considering this bike as an all around riding option some trail and some street but no long distance on street. Any one have opinions or suggestions. Last time I bought a bike it was hybrid and tires didn't seem rugged enough.

This bike is a great choice for riding trails, but it will ride just fine on the street too. If you are looking for something a little more rugged than a hybrid bike, a hard-tail mountain bike like this will be just what you need.

RogueWaveSurfer

What is the extra hardware that comes with the bike used for? There are some cable end crimps, some cable routers, but also some nuts and bolts along with a threaded tool-looking device with the number "8" imprinted on it. Thanks!

When riding hard on this bike, occasionally end bits will fall off and the cable end crimps are replacements in case this happens to you. You also have the option to do some internal cable routing which is what the cable routers are for. The nuts and bolts hardware is for the braze-ons to add a rack. We recommend going into your local REI store for additional help you may need.

I'm 6'5 and am unsure if this bike will fit. Do you think I'm too tall and should look into another type of bike?

The key to finding the proper bike frame size is by measuring your total inseam (not pant inseam) while wearing your cycling shoes, and then comparing it to the standover height of the bike. We attach sizing charts to every bike we sell on REI.com to help you determine the correct size and fit.

Trying to decide between the 1.1 and the 1.2. Being able to shift into a really low gear for long ascents is important for me. What are the highest and lowest gear ratios for these two bikes?

The DRT 1.1 has a low ratio of 34-to-24 and a high ratio of 11-to-42. The DRT 1.2 has a low ratio of 36-to-22 and a high ratio of 12-to-40 and will therefore have a wider range of gears.

In what state of assembly/disassembly will this bike arrive when shipped to my home (oversize)? Even if I’m able to assemble myself, do I need to take it to a bike shop for anything specific (align, grease, etc)? First bike here. Handy.
