GSI Outdoors - Pinnacle Backpacker Cookset

Category: Camp Kitchen

This a great set for a backpacker who likes the creature comforts. My Snow Peak stove fits in a mug. Also, we keep spices and sporks in the kit. I love the washbasin and all in one kit, although it is a bit weighty and bulky.

Overall it's a good kit for 2-3 for a backpacking trip. I've only used it for one weekend but everything seems like it's good quality and cleans up really well. I like how the cups nest in one another so I can put my extra utensils in the pot with some smaller food items. I would definitely recommend this set based on the quality. However if you're looking for something ultra lightweight or will be carrying this by yourself you might want to keep looking.

GSI has made various tweaks to these products over the years. This latest iteration has a couple notable improvements from the one before it:

I've taken this on almost every backpacking trip for the past 5 years. The non-stick coating is better than non-stick pans in my kitchen. I've made over-easy eggs, pancakes, hash browns, s'mores pie and all have slid right out. I have the older, plastic lid but have not experienced melting. However, the fry pan did warp slightly in the center early on (I probably had the heat too high). After dealing with this issue for years, I called to inquire about a replacement part today. Phenomenal customer service - they are mailing out a replacement free of charge!

Good pot set, a little heavey, take a little work to get the stove inside and closed. If you don't mind a little more weight for a two person set this is a great set.

This is a good cookset for camping and backpacking. However the pots do bend when heat is applied and the frying pans bottom has also curved upward.

Loved every part of this! Everyone I camped with loved every part of it. It has everything I need and could store spices and such in the cups. I shared the usage with a friend while on a hike and was perfect. Only thing I wish it had was more cup measurements and darker writing but I will be making my own lines on the cups to get what I need on it. Would buy again and again.

I've used this cookset on a few occasions now. It works really great. A few things that I really like: 1. It has a silicone gasket around the pot lid that separates the frying pan from the pot. Keeps noise/rattle down. It is also fully removable which makes cleaning it easier. 2.The kit is lightweight but still feels quite sturdy. Great for just a couple of people. 3. The nesting cups are nice, allowing you more room to fit other things (towel, soap, etc.), but I will probably ditch them on most occasions for weight savings. 4. I've cooked eggs in the frying pan and had no issues with sticking. The non-stick seems to be good.

The cookware is outstanding, and is super easy to use with the removable pot-gripper. When storing the pot-gripper or any other possibly abrasive components inside the cookware, place it in one of the cups or put it in a sock to avoid scratching the non-stick surface.

I purchased this in anticipation of my girlfriend and I going out on backpacking trips on our own, since it's designed for two people with room to spare on the inside for a stove, silverware, or anything else you might need to help save on space. Without those extra things in there, what you do have will jostle around and (in the case of the pot gripper) may scratch the cooking surface of the pot, which has not happened with me yet.

This is a great match with the GSI nForm Crossover utensil set, which nests perfectly inside. Everything you need for two people, and the sink/carry case is a great touch. The nonstick surface is super durable compared to others I have used, at least to the time of posting. I really wanted a fry pan, more than a second pot, for just two people. This is one of the few small sets that gave the option. Unfortunately the small cooker I carry backpacking for two is hard to temp control and even at the lowest setting the pan warped a little on the first cook. That made it wobbly on the cooker, making me nervous about removing the handle, which got super hot quickly when left attached. I guess for nesting purposes the cups and bowls are slightly different sizes and I stretched the cozie after the first wash when I mixed them up. All in all these are minor draw backs, and though this is better suited for camping with a larger stove I think it will find its way into my pack the next time the wife and I go for a multi day backpacking trip.

Have now used this product for multiple meals while camping, and it has performed amazingly.

Was deciding between getting a dualist and backpacker cookset and decided on the latter given that it's not much heavier than the former although I was a bit concern about the bulk. Took it on a hiking/camping trip to havasupai and couldn't be happier! The size of the pot makes it ideal for cooking food for a large group of people. We had cooked 6 packs of instant oatmeal in it , and then cooked scrambled egg for a big group. We've also cooked 2 packs of ramen in it -- something that would have been hard to do if it was a dualist and friends were taking turn to cook and eat the ramen from this pot. At first, I was a bit concern about the pot gripper -- whether it will heat up during cooking. So after having tested it, I find that if you're holding the second half of the metal gripper after the fold, it is cool to the touch. The inner part of the metal gripper before the fold (where the orange release button is) is the part that is hot to the touch. So as long as you're holding it right, you will not scald yourself
