YETI - Tundra 45 Cooler

Category: Camp Kitchen

Cooler is very well made. Its insulating properties are superior to standard coolers, significantly better. It is solid, and you can sit or stand on it. I expect it will last a lifetime. I will keep and use it for the rest of my life. Item: It looks very different from a conventional cooler, and you will hear much ooing and aahing!

I play-ran some tests with this cooler before needing it, including dry ice, plain old refrigerator/freezer ice, and deep freeze ice. I am confident that if I had to keep something cold for 5 or 6 days, such as on a remote trip with somebody's important medicine at risk, this cooler would be just fine. I played around with the dry ice just to see how long the coolth would last. FUN! Great cooler and I'll have this one until it gets stolen or falls out of the boat or truck. If you are going on a long trip, cool down the cargo first, such as refrigerating the beverage containers overnight FIRST. It's natural to pre-cool your cargo and this indicates zero flaw with the Yeti. Highly recommended.

I got this a few months ago and I've taken it camping 2 times so far. This thing is tough, and kept my ice cold for 4 days. I actually want a second one now!

I feed my dogs a total of 6 pounds of raw food a day and this cooler kept the food frozen until we needed it. That leaves the freezer section of the refrigerator in the RV for HUMAN consumption. We placed 1 five pound bag of ice with the food but still in the bag. Unfortunately it totally melted after the 4 day trip as we removed the frozen raw food from it. Maybe if we poured a couple of bags if ice into the cooler instaee of keeping the one bag within the bag the ice would have lasted longer. Other than that, it was a good deal with my points reward money from REI.

Great investment so far. I'm on a 2 month long road trip and it allows me to store food between 5-6 days no problem; so I save money in the long run. I literally park my truck and pull out fresh food to cook with, haha. It maintains Ice for a long time so I can stay on the road longer and have food readily available anywhere I go! I usually store eggs, yogurt, meat, vegetables and left overs. Great size just going solo or maybe up to 2 people, but really depends on what you expect to store and for how long. Its super sturdy and I like that it has these non-slip stoppers so its not sliding around in my bed of my truck. It also has 2 built in holes so I can lock/ chain it to my truck!!. It also an easy drain plug too, so its pretty easy to clean.

We purchased our Yeti 45 Cooler on Friday morning July 15 2016 as soon as the REI store opened, loaded it with two large bags of ice and hit the road in our RV nicknamed “The Tardis” for a weekend campout. We also bought 2-20 oz & 2-30 oz Yeti cups earlier in the week. All did surprisingly well. The large cups held ice overnight, what a shock. The cooler did even better. On Thursday, 6 days later there was still ice and cold water in the cooler. We would say that is an excellent result. We normally stay on the road in our RV, for up to 90 days at a time. We have traveled from our home in Virginia all the way up to the Arctic Circle north of Fairbanks Alaska and back (15,000 miles – 97 days). The Yeti Cooler is great for our extended travels… Holly & Dave Fox (The Tardis Time Travelers)

We took this cooler on a week long trip into the mountains. Enough food for 3 adults... anything over and I would upsize to the 60. Following recommendations - pre-chilling, recommended amount of ice, keeping it out of the sun, we still had ice by the end of the week. Spendy, but it is your fridge while travelling, so worth it. Built well, rope handles make it easy for 2-person carry. 4 stars because it's overpriced, IMO.

This cooler is as good as they come. Any Yeti cooler is great, but for me this is the most functional. Just came back from a 5 day trip where the temps were in the mid to high 90's (Moab, Utah) during the day. Had food and beverages in the cooler and only had to add ice one time. Since I was solo camping, I can still move this one around by myself. Do yourself a favor if you get one, make sure you get cables and locks to keep it secure to the picnic table or whatever, otherwise it'll be gone!

I'm a long-haul trucker who doesn't have a fridge in my company truck. Like so many others I had another brand of cooler for years until April or so of 2018. What a difference the YETI Tundra45 made in my life! Where I go it's really hot or really humid/hot in the summer. I fill my YETI with a 10# block of ice, all my cold stuff to include mayo, salad dressing, sandwich meats, carrots and cheese(some in the basket and some not) and 10# bag of cubes on top. I drain excess water and replace cubes every other day or so and at the end of 2wks there will still be a little less than a quarter of the block left. Be assured that I open that YETI probably 10 times or more per day. Save your change and get one, especially if you have a usage even close to mine, it'll save you $ in the long run.

So I did a free chill my cooling the cooler the day before the trip added a half a bag of ice during the trip added a small bag of ice just dab some ice got home still had all the ice from the original day after 4 days even left it in the truck for a day in the hot sun and then after I cleaned it out with hot soapy water and close the lid and left it for a day I opened it and I got a Arctic chill blast of cold air. Definitely worth the money

Followed the proper pre cooling/ice instructions twice. Even put in a large freezer for a few days. Nothing could compete with the summer temperatures of my road trip/camping adventure. Yes- it was summer and I had many hot days... and yes- I have no a/c in my car. And in those conditions it acted like any other cooler. New ice every 2 days was necessary. Kind of extreme conditions, but still disappointed.

I bought this for a three and a half day summer camping/peakbagging trip and it met all of my expectations. Really, I just wanted something that would keep food safe for three full days without doing anything other than loading with regular ice and ice packs. The ability to lock it and chain it to a tree in bear country was just bonus.

Will work for Food

Does it fit in a camaro trunk? Change my car and could not find a good size cooler that fit in it.
